McConnell's 6-8 Five Corners
Wayside Blues 8-6 Grinders
Granges 10-4 Wayside
Tweedies 14-0 Monty's
Match of the week saw Five Corners travel to reigning champions McConnells with both teams looking to bounce back from last weeks defeats in their respective Shane Curran Memorial semi finals. McConnells however, seemed to be suffering from a hangover from last weeks defeat as Five Corners sped into a three frame lead including a lesson in speed pool from Pat McInally as he had a Break 'n' Dish in less than a minute. Rab McCullough stopped the rot for McConnells as he beat Iain Britton, and Macs got themselves back in the match as Gee Crawley took revenge on Ryan Foster after the Ballymena man had beaten him in the first frame of the night. McConnells hopes were short lived as Five Corners rattled off the next 4 frames and guaranteed leaving Doagh with at least a point. Johnny Mackay and Wayne Lewis tried to deny the inevitable as they both took a frame each off Alastair Wilson before Five Corners top frame scorer this season, Paul Francey wrapped up the 3 points with a winning frame against McConnells new boy Shaun McAlister. Best for Five Corners on the night was Pat McInally with 2/2.
Aaron Kirkwood's Wayside Blues are quickly becoming the team no one want to face as they followed up their 8-3 drubbing of Tweedies in last weeks Shane Curran Plate Semi Final, with a hard fought victory over Derek Whiteside's Grinders by 8-6. Aaron himself, put in another captains performance with wins against Sara Greenberg in the first frame before sealing the teams win with a great clearance against Rab Butler. Best for Blues were Aaron Kirkwood & Josh McIlroy who both had 2/2, best for Grinders was Rab brown also with 2/2.
As the Blues were winning at home, stable mates Wayside Inn were also on the winning trail as they beat Cole Shannon's Granges in Ballyclare. Wayside went to Granges with 3 League debutants in the team as John McNeilly and Uel Wallace were unavailable, but that didn't stop them winning both sessions by 5-2. Kyle Kirkwood must have been expecting more from a Granges team that won last week in their semi final to book a final against Wayside Blues, but Wayside Inn showed some of the same fighting spirit they showed last week as they beat Five Corners to make their own final. best for Granges was Jonny Shannon winning his only frame of the night, best for Wayside Inn were Gary Rutherford, Neil Campbell & Kyle Kirkwood who all got 2/2.
Tweedies received a 14-0 Walkover in their match against Monty's as they were unable to field a team.
Next week sees the League Doubles in 4 separate venues. Good Luck to all players involved.
