Thursday 4th September

Monty's 1-13 McConnell's
Wayside 5-9 Grinders
Tweedies 11-3 Wayside Blues
Five Corners 12-2 Granges

McConnell's picked up where they left off last season with a comprehensive win over Monty's. Monty's lost the first 3 frames of the match, before new Captain John 'Ghostie' McClean won their first and only frame of the night, before McConnell's finished the night off with 10 frames in a row. Rab McCullough, Philip Houston, Wayne Lewis and Steven Mitchell all picked up 2/2 in their first match of the season.
Hot on their heels are Five Corners after a convincing 12-2 demolition of Cole Shannon's Granges team. Granges will be hoping for something better in their next match, a derby match against fellow Granges Bar team Monty's. Five Corners however will need more of the same as they face League new boys Tweedies.
Tweedies got their season off to the best possible start with a 11-3 win over Wayside Blues. With the match being played in Grange Bar due to Tweedies refurbishment work not being completed in time, Wayside Blues may have felt the loss of home advantage may have been enough to get them something from the game, and with Craig Laughlin winning the first frame for the Blues, both teams could be forgiven for thinking the same thing. But alas it wasn't to be, as although it was 4-3 to Tweedies at the halfway mark,  they kicked on and run off the next 7 frames without loss to record their first win of the season. Ady Toner, Pearse Sharrat, Alan Ferguson and captain Darren Ryles all getting 2/2 with Wayside Blues Craig Laughlin also winning 2/2 on his debut for his new team.
Most worrying for Five Corners and McConnell's as they set their sights on another assault on the title could be Grinders 9-5 win over 2012/13 Champions Wayside Inn, albeit with an 'under strength' team fielded by Vice Captain Robert Brown. Grinders who trailed 2-0 & 3-2 lost only 2 of the remaining 9 frames to come away from the Wayside with the full 3 points without even breaking sweat. A visit from last years Treble Winners McConnell's, however will give Derek Whiteside a better idea of how his team will fare during the rest of the season. Best for Grinders were Sara Greenberg and Trevor Whiteside who both scored 2/2 as did Wayside Captain Kyle Kirkwood. Wayside look forward to another couple of eventful nights in the Wayside as they play Wayside Blues in both the League and Shane Curran Memorial Cup.
