BIG MATCH REPORT
Wayside 'A' and McConnells faced off in this crucial top of the table clash and the reigning Champions blew away Kyle Kirkwoods Wayside 'A' to open up a 3 point gap and secure the last remaining 100% record in the League. In a high standard match with 6 b8 ball finishes, M.Higgins looked like giving the hosts the lead with an 8 baller but went in off the black to hand the frame to J.Mackay. Mackay wasn't in a forgiving mood and when Higgins broke dry in the 2nd frame he duly took out an 8 baller tpo make it 2-0 to McConnells. Kirkwood ousted J.Moore twice in a row in 2 tactical frames to level the scoring at 2-2. Up next W.Lewis for McConnells and B.Craig for the home side. It was Lewis with two 8 ball clearances including a fantastic double on the black in Frame 6 to restore McConnells 2 frame advantage at 4-2. Frame 7 saw the first Scotch Doubles contest with J.Moore and J.Mackay defeating N.Campbell and U.Wallace with some good tactical play to increase the lead to 5-2 at the mid point in the match. The Doagh steam train continued with S.Mitchell completing two 8 ballers to put McConnells on the hill at 7-2. Wayside had a mini revival when N.Campbell took out a pinpoint finish to pull one back, but in Frame 11 McConnells Captain Stewart Hull secured the 3 vital points with a superb cut on the black into the middle pocket. M.Wilson and J.Murdock shared a frame each before Kirkwood and Murdock beat Lewis and Turkington in the 2nd Scotch Doubles match to leave the final score at 9-5 in McConnells favour.
